Susan Schleck Kleiner, Esq.
Susan Schleck Kleiner is a commercial litigator and general practitioner with extensive experience in complex matters including construction, environmental, real estate, products liability and toxic tort matters. Ms. Kleiner has tried cases to verdict in state and federal courts in construction, employment, and contractual matters. Ms. Kleiner served as general counsel of a closely held pharmaceutical and specialty chemical company where she gained valuable experience in general corporate issues and management, including transactional work, assistance in intellectual property matters, and representing the company in state and federal courts and before local municipal boards. During that time, she also served as manager of human resources, where she assumed primary responsibility for employment matters involving the company, including OSHA compliance issues, work visas for foreign workers, and employment disputes and terminations.
Before joining Vella Singer in 2019, Ms. Kleiner had her own firm for almost 10 years. Prior to that, she was a partner with Langsam Stevens & Silver in Philadelphia, and an associate with Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in Princeton, NJ and Lowenstein Sandler in Roseland, NJ. From 2009-2010, she also served as Public Defender for the Borough of Highland Park.
After law school, Ms. Kleiner was honored to clerk for the Honorable Chief Justice Robert E. Wilentz of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Ms. Kleiner has been selected as a “New Jersey Superlawyer” from 2014 to 2019. Each year, no more than five percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor. In 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 she was also selected as one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys.
She received her bachelor’s degree in International Studies from The American University in 1992, and graduated Cum Laude from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1995, where she served as the book review editor and technical editor of The Seton Hall Law Review, as well as captain of the Jessup Moot Court Team.
Ms. Kleiner serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of The Wilson House of East Dorset, Vermont and as Vice President for A Shore Thing non-profit theater in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. She was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court and currently serves as a Trustee of the Lawyers Assistance Program and the District VIII Fee Arbitration Committee.
Ms. Kleiner volunteers her time to serve as a mentor/coach of the mock trial team at JP Stevens High School in Edison, New Jersey. Ms. Kleiner served many years as a board member of the New Jersey Women Lawyer’s Association. She has been extensively involved with Girl Scouts, including serving as a Board Member and Vice President for the Girl Scouts of Rolling Hills, and the Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey. She also received the “Thanks Badge,” which is the highest award given to adult volunteers in Girl Scouting. Ms. Kleiner also served on the Board of Directors of Playworks-Newark, an organization that is dedicated to safe, healthy, and inclusive play and physical activity to schools at recess and throughout the entire school day.
Ms. Kleiner is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the New Jersey Women’s Lawyer’s Association, the National Association of Women Lawyers, the Middlesex County Bar Association, and Business Network International.
Ms. Kleiner is constantly in search of achieving the perfect work-life balance. In addition to being the mother of two, she regularly workshops and performs improvisational theater/comedy in central New Jersey. She is a member of “Death By Improv” in East Parlin, New Jersey.
